“Not sure if you remember the record label ‘The Balearic Sounds of …’ and they would select an artist and re-release their most “balearic” cuts. So like Lucio Battisti, Fleetwood Mac, Crosby Stills & Nash etc etc. Artists that might be considered “pop” or “rock” but have a few island time heaters stashed in the back catalogue. It really opened my eyes to the fact that balearic music is a vibe moreso than a genre. This mix is a little bit of that, and a lot of the fact that I’ve always wanted to do a soft, dad rock, strummy guitar mix. Got some new, some old, some ambient, some sing-a-long. Even ventures away from the beach aesthetic and more into the untapped balearic landscape of cattle farms and dusty bush roads. Probably sounds best with your feet up on your back verandah, fresh VB stubby in hand, admiring the handiwork you’ve just bestowed on your lawn. Maybe with the barbie warming up…”
